Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run

The Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run and all of our other T.E.A.L.®Walk/Run events are now combined into the National T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run/Ride this year! We have now expanded to take place virtually during all of September – Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month – and include participants from anywhere in the U.S. This year only we are also welcoming cyclists to our event. Visit tealwalk.org/september to register.

We may be national this year, but we still want to do something special for NYC participants. Stop by our T.E.A.L.® Community Center at 533 16th Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn, to either kick-off or finish your race! Pick up a surprise gift, take photos, and browse our shop. RSVP required.

The History of the T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run

The T.E.A.L.® Walk and 5K Run in Brooklyn, NY, is an annual event started by two sisters that celebrates the courage of ovarian cancer survivors and the strength of the families who’ve been touched by the disease, while spreading awareness to the public and raising money for research and a cure. The name of the Walk/5K Run/Ride Event is T.E.A.L.®, which stands for both teal, the color that symbolizes ovarian cancer, and for the not-for-profit organization that established this event, Tell Every Amazing Lady About Ovarian Cancer Louisa M. McGregor Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

The Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run is NYC’s largest ovarian cancer specific Walk/Run. T.E.A.L.®’s premiere event, the T.E.A.L®. Walk/Run, from which the foundation owes its inception, began in 2009.

There is no accurate screening test for ovarian cancer. About 15,500 women die from the disease every year in the USA. This is a result of an absence of ovarian cancer research funding and sufficient education about the disease. T.E.A.L.® was created to directly address this important women’s health issue. Women across the country lack the awareness, treatment options, and ability to diagnose which are essential in overcoming ovarian cancer.

Thousands of people participate in this amazing event. Participants include survivors, caregivers, families, friends and the general public who come together to raise awareness of and promote a cure for Ovarian Cancer. This year we’ll be celebrating those who’ve battled the disease during a virtual Survivor Social (September 2021).
