I’m proud to say that my mother is a 14-year survivor of ovarian cancer. Over the years she has become an activist, an educator, and a mentor in the community focused on awareness, education, and research for ovarian cancer. She inspired me to get involved and I couldn’t think of a better organization than Tell Every Amazing Lady®, as it allows me to also combine my passion for running and exercise.

As this is my first marathon, my goal for the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon is to cross the finish line and raise as much money as I can for the foundation.

Running has long been a central part of my life, starting from my days as a State Champion sprinter and hurdler in high school. As I’ve transitioned to longer distances in the years since, I love running, as it allows me to be outside, forget about whatever is occupying my mind, listen to my new favorite songs, and explore new parts of town.

If I had the power to change one thing related to ovarian cancer, it would be to develop and promote widespread use of a screening test for the disease.

Ovarian cancer has been termed “the silent killer” because its symptoms are often mistaken for other conditions and therefore many women do not realize they have the cancer until it is too late. If I could send a message about ovarian cancer, I would highlight the importance of awareness of the symptoms so that all women know what to look out for.
