Running for team Tell Every Amazing Lady®, yet again, is a huge honor to me. I may not have faced the effects of ovarian cancer personally, but, in my family, I do know the feeling of losing a loved one to circumstances that could have been prevented if caught earlier. It can be incredibly difficult, and easy to point a finger at yourself for not catching it sooner.
I ran with the team in the 2018 United Airlines NYC Half. My favorite part about running is that you can get lost in it. When you’re running, you can enter your own zone and lower your stress levels.
T.E.A.L.® holds a special place with me because of its passion for what it does. In my past experience working with other charities, it can be easy to get distracted by the events you’re working up to. For T.E.A.L.®, it was always clear what we were working for. It was that pride for this foundation that made me reach out to return again.
I’m running to raise awareness about ovarian cancer because even if only one person sees this charity and decides to look into the signs of the disease, that’s one more person that might be able to help someone.
Cancer can be incredibly scary, and it can be awkward to bring up if you’re not 100% sure. But I implore you — even if you’re only slightly concerned, look into it. You’re allowed to be scared about what you may find out, but know that the sooner you know your obstacle, the sooner you can overcome it.
