I came across team Tell Every Amazing Lady® when I was looking for a charity to run for in the 2020 United Airlines NYC Half. I have lost a loved one to ovarian cancer, and I know someone who has beaten it. Tell Every Amazing Lady® caught my eye.
My goal for the 2020 United Airlines NYC Half is to have fun and enjoy the experience all while raising money and awareness for a disease that is often overlooked.
What I love most about running is that I get to experience new cities and states in a completely different way than I would if I was just walking or driving around. I also love the support you receive — all of the amazing people I get to meet in my own running community, or at races, plus the incredible spectators who come out in the rain, snow, or heat just to cheer runners on. Also, it keeps me in shape.
If I had the power to make a difference related to ovarian cancer, it would be increasing the amount of medical research for this awful disease. I would also like to see OB/GYN offices have more information about ovarian cancer readily available in their offices. Ovarian cancer is not talked about enough, and I do not believe the majority of women are educated enough on this subject until it is too late for them. Maybe that would help more women be aware of the signs, and save more lives.
If I could send a message to every amazing lady, or to just one lady, it would be to stay positive, keep supportive people in your circle, and know that other women are here to help you. Also, if you’re comfortable with it, talk about your experience, because you do not know who else might be in the same situation as you, or knows someone who is trying to beat cancer, and needs to hear that they are not alone.
